How To Make The Perfect Avocado Toast

Hey you guys, I know times like this can be scary. Trust me, there is no better way to distract ourselves from a pandemic then to whip up something fresh, healthy and yummy. Anything we can do to stay productive I’m all about. So, with that in mind, I want to introduce you to my all-time favorite food, avocado toast! I know this is a staple for so many, but it’s also a hidden gem that can become a fresh and healthy staple in your meals. So, let’s dive into how to make the perfect avocado toast!

It is important that you don’t feel married to my interpretation of the recipe – experiment, play around, and have fun! Cooking is an expression of love and care unique to each person. Let’s get started…

PERFECT AVOCADO TOAST
(Recipe makes about 2 servings)

INGREDIENTS
2 Slices of Sourdough bread
One large avocado.
One heirloom tomato
One Handful arugula
4 lemon wedges
A pinch Smoked salt
A pinch of black pepper
A pinch of everything bagel seasoning.
A Pinch of red pepper flakes

It’s so important to get the bread right when it comes to avocado toast. It’s your foundation and as all know the foundation must be strong and flavorful. My new obsession is the sourdough from Super Bloom Bakery. It’s gluten free and vegan, a must for me but by no means a requirement, any of your favorite bread will do. One you get your slice of bread, put it in the toast and toast it lightly. I prefer it to be a little soft and chewy but if you like a little crunch you can always toast for longer.

Now let’s create our flavorful avocado base. This is very important. It’s the magical part of avocado toast. I love some avocado but it is way better with some extra love. So, here’s what you do, slice the avocado into a bowl, squeeze two wedges of lemon on it, sprinkle the smoked salt, red pepper flakes and a little black pepper into the bowl. Then, mix it all up with a fork. Make sure you really get in there and mash it up, you almost want it to be one step above guac with little chunks of avocado to be the noticeable difference.

Once that’s done, remove your sourdough bread from the toaster and add the avocado base to it. Make sure to spread the avocado on the bread with a nice even and full spread that covers the entire piece of toast. Slice up your tomato in half’s and add two pieces on top. Sprinkle a little smoked salt on the tomatoes and top with arugula. The final touch is sprinkling the everything bagel seasoning on top with a lemon wedge on the side.
